Pastor’s update

Hello to all,

So, yesterday afternoon, 90+ degrees, and I see that we have a freeze warning for tomorrow morning. In other words, fall on the high plains. I hope that our farmers aren’t too hurt by this.

We had a fairly busy week this week in the office, what with the Focus newsletter and the first stewardship letter going out. Things are picking up as we move into our fall season, with the Nominating Committee starting to think about next year’s elders, and other committees beginning to think about their budgets. I appreciate all the work that is being done by so many folks in the church.

This Sunday, I encourage everyone to celebrate World Communion with us, first with the Lord’s Supper (with bread from around the world, and prayers in many languages), and then with the potluck after church. Bring your favorite exotic or ethnic dish, and feel free to label it, or to let Karen know, and she will help with that. This is one of my favorite potlucks, with food representing cultures all over the world.

If you have forgotten to bring your vibrant yellow F.I.S.H bags full of food for the food pantry, you can bring them this week and we will make sure they get to the right people.

This Sunday, I will be continuing our series on the classic spiritual disciplines of the faith, with an exploration of Service. I will be preaching on the 2 Timothy passage from the lectionary. Other lectionary texts can be found here.
