Well, we've gotten our rain, and then some. Maybe we could stretch it out a little more, but we are grateful. Things sure are green in town!
A couple of announcements from the office. Karen is still in Germany, and will be back on July 3rd. Yay! Her work here in the office is complicated and detail oriented, and I have gained even more of an appreciation for the way she makes it look easy. We can all breathe a sigh of relief when she comes back.
Please bring your vibrant yellow F.I.S.H. bags for the food pantry this Sunday, and place them around the communion table. It's a nice reminder that as we are fed by the food of heaven, we also feed those in our community who aren't sure where their next meal will come from.
There will be NO ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL this Sunday. Our class on the Rapture and Israel will have to wait a week (I know, bummer). There will be coffee, and if someone wants to bring donuts or a vegetable platter, there will be donuts and a vegetable platter.
The reason there will be no ADULT Sunday School is that I will not be here. Dr. Richard Morgan will be filling the pulpit, and I believe that he will be offering a sermon written by his daughter, DeAnna, a recent seminary graduate. The tantalizing title of her sermon is, "Crucifying Superman." Sounds interesting!
Some folks in the church have expressed reservations about their money going to support the General Assembly, especially in view of the actions taken at this last meeting a few weeks ago. In response to their questions, I have put together some numbers that might be helpful for others who have these same concerns. I encourage you to take a look at this link in order to see a breakdown of how mission money is distributed, both here in Plainview, and in the PC(USA). If anybody would like to talk to me about this sensitive issue, please give me a call.
